Our Story
Edge Security has been a trusted name in the New Jersey security industry for almost three decades. Founded in 1994 by Ernest and Mabel Edge, our firm is the embodiment of the American Dream.
Hard Work Pays Off
Ernest Edge, a hard-working family man and delivery driver for a coffee company, discovered his knack for security through happenstance. As he delivered coffee and worked odd jobs to provide for his family, his natural aptitude for providing security to businesses in his community shone through. Security was one of those “odd jobs.” He found that people needed someone they could trust to protect their businesses. With advice and industry insights from his son-in-law, a police officer, Ernest realized the potential in making security a full-time endeavor.
Through sheer determination and strategic marketing—often wearing his security company hat while delivering coffee—Ernest found new clients intrigued by his dual role. His wife, Mabel, expertly managed the business operations, allowing Ernest to assemble a team of skilled personnel and secure increasingly substantial contracts. He did this while still working full time delivering coffee.
A New Generation of Leadership
In 2008, a new generation stepped in as their grandson, Reggie Merritt, joined the business. Reggie expertly modernized business processes, aligning Edge Security with corporate standards. In 2012, Ernest and Mabel retired leaving the company in Reggie’s capable hands. Reggie expanded our portfolio to include major retail stores like Sephora, Rite Aid, CVS, and Ulta. Today, our services extend to business offices, celebrity events, and personal protection details.

Despite the challenging economic landscape presented by the COVID-19 pandemic, we adapted our operations to become lean and efficient. Reggie’s tireless commitment to ensuring our survival has us well-positioned for growth in the post-COVID world.

As we look to the future, our mission is to expand beyond New Jersey. We will lead the industry through our services and by mentoring other companies to elevate the security sector. We will continue to hire local talent, empowering them to not only safeguard our communities but also to better their lives and provide for their families.
